THE FILMMAKER

Ann Shin is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker, writer, and producer known for her compelling documentaries and literary work. Based in Toronto, she is the founder of Fathom Film Group and has created acclaimed films that explore complex global issues through a deeply human lens. Her credits include the Emmy-nominated My Enemy, My Brother, the Canadian Screen Award–winning The Defector: Escape from North Korea, and A.rtificial I.mmortality, which premiered at Hot Docs and explored the ethical dilemmas of AI and consciousness. A graduate of the University of Toronto with a background in English literature, Shin is also an accomplished author and poet. Her debut novel The Last Exiles won the 2022 Trillium Book Award. With a body of work that spans film, literature, and digital media, Shin continues to be a powerful voice in contemporary storytelling.
